World Lawyer Refund Policy

Clear terms, before you pay.

This policy explains when refunds do and don't apply to payments made through World Lawyer, whether for a legal service or a premium directory listing. In short, payments are generally non-refundable, unless you and your lawyer have agreed otherwise. Please read it before purchasing.

The policy in one line

Payments made through World Lawyer are generally non-refundable, unless a refund has been agreed as part of your arrangement with the lawyer, or is required by law.

General policy

World Lawyer is a marketplace that connects clients with independent lawyers, and also offers premium directory listings to lawyers and firms. When you purchase a legal service, you are paying the lawyer for their time and work; when you purchase a premium listing, you are paying for placement and features on the platform. Because legal work often begins as soon as an engagement is accepted, and because listing upgrades typically take effect immediately, payments made through the platform are generally non-refundable.

This applies once a service has been requested, accepted, or started, or once a premium listing has been activated, whichever happens first.

Client-lawyer arrangements

The main exception is any refund term agreed directly between you and your lawyer. Lawyers set their own scope, fees, and refund arrangements, and those take priority over the general rule above.

  • Agree it upfront: if you want the option of a refund, agree the terms with your lawyer in writing before work begins.
  • Honoured by the lawyer: where a lawyer agrees to a refund, World Lawyer will help process it through the original payment method.
  • Our role: we facilitate payments and refunds between you and the lawyer, but the decision to refund rests with the lawyer, except where law requires otherwise.

Platform fees

Any fees charged by World Lawyer for use of the platform, including fees for premium directory listings, are separate from the amount paid to a lawyer. Platform fees and listing fees are generally non-refundable, unless required by applicable law.

How to request a refund

If you believe you're eligible for a refund, here's how to proceed.

01

Talk to your lawyer

Raise the request with the lawyer first, since refund terms are agreed between you.

02

Contact us

If a refund is agreed, or you need help, email us with your transaction details.

03

Provide details

Include the service, date, amount, and the reason for the request.

04

We process it

Approved refunds are returned to your original payment method.

Processing & timing

Where a refund is approved, we'll process it through our payment provider back to your original payment method. The time it takes to appear depends on your bank or card provider, and is typically [5-10] business days.

Disputes & chargebacks

If you have a concern about a payment, please contact us first so we can help resolve it. Raising a chargeback with your bank before contacting us can delay resolution. Abusive or fraudulent chargebacks may result in suspension of your account.

Your legal rights

Nothing in this policy removes any refund or cancellation rights you may have under the consumer-protection laws that apply to you. Where such laws give you stronger rights than this policy, those rights apply.
